Comeback Medvedev Secures Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years

19 of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A revitalized Medvedev won his first championship for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid season, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in especial - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and finally parting ways with former coach Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his first trophy following the Rome competition and first on a hard surface from that period of that year.

Success also signifies Medvedev has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one different events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is really nice," said ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his last six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.

His counter-punching approach and recurring reactions on the playing surface had caused observers to question if his capacity to perform at the top level was concluded.

Yet the player has made changes in the past month, striving to advance forward and play positively, backed up by an enhanced service.

The champion came back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the final five games to take the lead.

The competitors swapped breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his first ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to force a decider.

He rescued 4 early-game chances in a competitive final set before Medvedev broke to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner clinched victory with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman failing to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
